The DaMane Golf Shop
Central to DeMane Golf, Inc. is the cosy Golf Shop, where Rick and Rene spend the bulk of their time tending to the needs of their customers.
Here the work of ordering, customizing, fixing, and/or tweaking is done for DeMane Golf customers by Rick and Rene, and sometimes Harry (who has been a fixture at DeMane Golf for over 30 years).
The atmosphere is friendly, welcoming, and a reflection of what might be called an evolution of 100-plus years of golf history, craftsmanship, and daily to day golf club work. There are machines moving in and out that are, or were, used for everything from cutting grooves in DeMane-branded hand-made persimmon woods, to measuring shaft frequencies, and laser-checking the alignment of new grips..
A central vacuum system removes air impurities as a belt sander, grinder, cutter, and drill press smoothen, shape, bore, hone, and cut tips, butts, grips, hosels, heads, inserts, and more. Here you’ll see things above and below, and instantly recognize their purpose and utility.
The DeMane Golf Shop is a ‘golfsmith’s’ playground. This is where is where Ben Hogan, Wilson, and Hagen sent their customers’ golf clubs to be fixed. Old glass jars, assorted cups, flasks, and leftover boxes (or anything else that’ll function as a handy place for Rick) are DeMane Golf’s tools of the trade. The hiss of compressed air snakes its way through the walls over to the workbench, where a foot pedal on the floor is used to open and shut a rubber shaft holder at the gripping ‘station’.
Displays, laden with golf club eye candy from all the major club manufacturers (and a few whose names you may not recognize), line all of the walls spared by two windows, maybe 20 bins filled with the assorted golf grips, golf bags with more inventory, and rubber-banded sets of shaft pulls in every corner. (Yes, there’s a chair for you.)
